Black Tilla
Chinar Shawls
Originally created with thread made from gold or silver, Tilla embroidery is truly breathtaking to behold. It often features bold florets and paisley designs stitched with intricately thin needles in shimmering metallic threads. It is very exquisite and ceremonial, always a cherished piece for a Kashmiri bride.
First imagined in the remote village of Zari in Iran, the Tilla, or “Tilla Dozi,” style of embroidery was originally brought to the Kashmir region in 785 when Muslim saint, Shah-e-Hamdan travelled through the area. This revered style quickly adapted to create grandiose and intricate pieces to be worn in the royal courts of India.
