A specialty of Kashmiri artisans, Aari hand-embroidery is one of the most intricate and detailed forms of needlework.

First used in the 16th Century in India to craft elaborate floral motifs for royal garments, this style of embroidery is still popular today in the creation of many Kashmiri Pashmina scarves and shawls due to its timeless allure.

The threads are dyed with vegetable dyes and colours from real flowers of the valley. Aari embroidery is created using hooked needles known as “tambour” to create intrinsic and concentric loops with beautiful pure silk threads.
